Plucker’s Wing Bar Provides a Master Class in Social Media
Fast food restaurants and social media. Name a more iconic duo.
Largely pioneered by Wendy’s, social media has become a fantastic landscape for restaurants and brands to grow their fanbase while advertising their food. Over the years, many restaurants have taken to sites like Twitter and Instagram to build an audience of people through humor and sometimes snarky interactions.
One restaurant, at least in my experience, has taken this trend to another level and done an incredible job growing its social media presence in a way that no other chain has been able to duplicate. This business also happens to be my absolute favorite wing restaurant (and maybe my favorite restaurant) on the planet.
Plucker’s Wing Bar.
This Austin-born Wing Bar has always branded itself as a loud-mouthed, fun-loving, and amazing-food-having place to come watch sports and eat incredible wings. Their social media communicates this beautifully. As their bio on Twitter and Facebook states:
“If you don’t like our wings, we’ll give you the bird!”
While Plucker’s isn’t the only restaurant to have a snarky online attitude, I think Plucker’s is certainly one of the few that backs it up with a consistently amazing restaurant experience that justifies its online presence.
But this isn’t a food review, is it? Let’s talk about some of the posts that have made Plucker’s social media a titan in its class.
We’ll start with perhaps their most notorious post to date. Infamous social media influencer Jake Paul tweeted at Plucker’s in September of 2018 in response to a picture that they posted of their wings, what was their response?
This tweet went absolutely viral, and I’ll admit it might be one of the best things I’ve seen ever come out of Twitter.
Of course, their social media contains a lot of posts and memes about their food.
But, perhaps what makes them stand out to me the most, is the inside jokes that they post. You see, there is a constant battle among the wing eaters of the world over which wing is best: flappers or drums? This type of wing-related argument might seem trivial, but it is everything to those that frequent Plucker’s. Of course, their social media wouldn’t miss out.
What’s the point?
I think that I might start including this at the end of some/all of my blog posts. The mission of this blog is to provide an insight into the events and ideas that circulate around the internet, and this post about Plucker’s is no different. I, personally, have an extremely high sense of brand loyalty to this restaurant, one that’s higher than almost any other chain/brand out there. I genuinely believe their social media has a lot to do with that. I can’t count how many times I’ve opened up my Instagram and then see a Plucker’s post with a picture of their food and think to myself, “oh wow, I NEED some of those wings right now.”
So, what’s the point? I believe that social media can be an extremely powerful tool for brands to utilize to build their presence and increase revenue, but it will only last and increase brand loyalty when a company follows up with a great product. Plucker’s does a fantastic job of this, and it’s why they’ll always be my wing restaurant of choice.
