Freelancing on Fiverr
My experience and what I recommend
Freelancing is a fantastic way to earn a living. It can be a great side-hustle or even provide a full-time level of income, all by doing work that you might already enjoy doing. There are many freelance platforms out there, but today I’d like to focus on Fiverr.
Fiverr provides a platform for almost any kind of freelance work you can imagine. From graphic design to music production, you can likely find a service matching your needs on Fiverr. I’ve personally experienced the service both as a buyer and as a seller, and I’ve had a largely positive experience both ways. There are, of course, some downsides, and I’ll talk about that shortly. Regardless, there are many talented people on the platform that provide quality services and products, and Fiverr does a great job of facilitating this.
A Buyer’s Perspective
Let’s just say you run a small business and you need a logo made. Fiverr is perfect for this, and you can easily navigate the site to the “Graphics and Design” section to select “Logo Design.”
Fiverr is home to many different kinds of artists, and they utilize an algorithm to showcase profiles that consistently provide quality service. I’ve personally purchased from a variety of artists, and I’ve had a generally great and custom experience each time.
Every “gig” is different, but most provide different packages that will include different benefits at various price levels. One of the great parts about Fiverr is the ability to directly contact the seller and ask them questions and make requests over the built-in messaging system. This is a great way to make sure you’re going to be able to get exactly what you want, and it’s also good from the seller’s perspective to make sure that they have direction as to what to provide.
A Seller’s Perspective
Things are slightly different when you’re a seller on Fiverr. I, personally, have a voice-over listing on Fiverr that has garnered a modest level of success over the last few months.
As a seller, I’ve loved being on Fiverr and have found it to be a fantastic platform to gain attention on without having to do any advertising myself. As a result of this free advertisement, however, Fiverr does take a 20% cut on all of my orders. This means that for a $10 order, I only see $8. It’s not as bad as it can be, but it does add up. Fiverr’s platform is fantastic in that it allows for a freelancer like me to immediately have access to an audience of buyers, all while taking care of payment security, facilitating the order, and providing a messaging platform to communicate with buyers. It allows for a vast amount of customization for my specific service and allows me to write my own rules as far as what I will and will not provide.
I can even set gig extras so that my buyers can make sure they get exactly what they want.
What’s the point?
As always, what’s the point? This was a briefer article but I wanted to use it to eventually bring up a larger topic. Fiverr is one of many ways that one can gain financial freedom through multiple streams of income. I think that this is powerful, and Fiverr does a fantastic job of facilitating this. Most people have a talent or a service that they could provide, and I think that it would behoove all of us to utilize a platform like Fiverr to give ourselves a chance at greater oppurtunities.
