Clubhouse is changing the game
An idea so great, Facebook is already copying it
Many may have already heard about the latest social media app: Clubhouse.
Clubhouse is an invite-only, social media app that aims to use audio chats as a means of linking people together, instead of the traditional text posting or image posting.
This unique idea has garnered the attention of celebrities like Elon Musk who recently took to Clubhouse to chat with the app’s creators, as well as Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev about his role in the craziness surrounding the Gamestop stock scandal.
An idea that may seem novel at first glance, has quickly grown into something that cannot be found anywhere else. On Clubhouse the premise is simple; as a user you browse “rooms” to drop in on that could have anyone from Elon Musk or 21 Savage talking with one another, and you can listen in as a member of the audience. As an audience member, you can raise your hand and an admin of the conversation can invite you to participate. Users can also start their own “clubs” and form their own “rooms” with other users.
This concept draws many similarities to a live podcast of sorts, but its “social media-ness” finds itself in the interactivity and randomness of the platform. As a user, it’s a really fun experience to just scroll through the various categories and rooms to spontaneously tune into random conversations. It’s a brilliant combination of podcasting and social media.
Clubhouse is still in its infancy, and in order to become a user you have to be invited by someone already on the platform. However, as more people get invited, that will become more trivial as time goes on.
Elon Musk has already announced his return to the platform, and he will be accompanied by none other than Kanye West.
I, for one, cannot wait to hear how that conversation goes.
As Musk points out, “The most entertaining outcome is the most likely.”
